Montrose Chemical Corp. Superfund Site in Torrance, CA

BACKGROUND

The Montrose property is approximately 13 acres in size and is located at 20201 South Normandie Avenue in Los Angeles, California. At this location, Montrose manufactured technical grade dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT) from 1947 to 1982. Montrose terminated its production process in 1982, and the plant was fully demolished by 1983. The property was re-graded and capped with asphalt in 1985. EPA proposed the Site for the Superfund National Priorities List (NPL) in 1984, and the proposal was finalized in 1989. Additional details regarding the historical Montrose operations at the property are provided in EPA’s Final Remedial Investigation Report for the Montrose Superfund Site (EPA, 1998).
